an approach to increasing reliability using syndrome extension

abstract

computational errors in numerical data processing may be detected efficiently by using parity values associated with real number codes, even when inherent round off errors are allowed in addition to failure disruptions. this paper examines correcting turbo codes by straightforward application of an algorithm derived for finite-field codes, modified to operate over any field. there are syndromes associated with turbo code words corrupted by large and small error values that relate directly to the induced errors. hence, after determining the location of a few large errors if possible, the syndromes may be extended so as to yield these large corrupting errors along with approximations to the prevalent low-level errors. the techniques proposed in this paper can be employed in correcting erroneously processed data caused by soft errors.

Generally, boiler feed water pumps are subjected to extreme mechanical and thermal stresses because of their huge siz...

An Approach to Reliability Systems Using PH-distributions

Two reliability systems are considered in this work. First, a unit system modeled by a semi-Markov process, and then a two-system governed by a non-Markovian stochastic process. In both cases an approach is followed using phase-type distributions, showing the versatility of this class of distributions in the modeling of reliability systems. Performance measures are determined and presented in a...

An Enhanced Approach To Network Reliability Using Boolean Algebra

1 Abstract The network reliability analysis problem consists of evaluating a measure of the reliability of a network. A more general context than the network reliability analysis is the stochastic coherent binary system (SCBS) analysis. One approach used in determining the reliability of a system involves Boolean algebra, and in particular a sum of disjoint products (SDP) technique. This paper ...

A fuzzy approach to reliability analysis

Most of the existing approaches for fuzzy reliability analysis are based on fuzzy probability.  The aim of this paper is to describe fuzzy reliability using fuzzy differential equation. The reliability of a system in real world applications is affected by some uncertain parameters. Fuzzy reliability is a way to present the reliability function uncertainly using fuzzy parameters. In the proposed...
